Captain's favourite anchorages - LA TANIA
Published 28 février 2020
Experienced captains know exactly where to go to give guests a memorable charter, whatever the weather, whoever the client, wherever in the world.
This month, Captain Lachlan Briggs of LA TANIA shares a handful of his go-to bays, anchorages and creeks in the Mediterranean.
Meet the captain
After completing a Bachelor's degree in Marine Science, Lachlan began his career at sea in 1998, fishing the Bonaparte archipelago and Arafura seas of North Western Australia. He moved into yachting in 2006 to combine his close connection with the ocean with his other passion: travel. Other hobbies include kitesurfing and winter sports to break up the endless summer.
Lachlan holds his Master 3000GT licence and has extensive cruising experience in the Mediterranean, extending over some of the most reputable charter yachts in the industry. Lachlan’s calm and professional nature, together with his cruising experience is a great asset to LA TANIA. Together with his fun-loving and energetic team, Lachlan aims to make your time on board LA TANIA truly memorable.
Theoule-sur-Mer, France
I like Theoule-sur-Mer because it nearly always offers a quiet reprieve from the bustle of the Riviera, yet it's still really close to Cannes. It's pretty, offers reasonable protection from the SE, has good depths and good holding. It’s also good for a quick swimming stop between Monaco and Saint-Tropez.
Girolata and Iles Sanguinaires, Corsica
The west coast of Corsica can offer some beautiful anchorages when the weather is good. There are spots like Girolata in the north and Iles Sanguinaires further south. There are many secluded beaches further south as well which are good for beach set-ups where guests can feel like they are away from the rest of the world, but you need three days of good weather to do it comfortably.
Positano, Italy
Positano is one of my favorite destinations for scenery. The views of the Amalfi coast are incredible by day with the mountains towing over you and the lights of Positano are worth staying overnight for. It also has easy access to restaurants, shopping and some great hikes.
Mljet, Croatia
There are some beautiful anchorages around the northern tip of Mljet in Croatia and the western side of the island is a national park so it's remained unspoilt. The water is clean and calm, great for swimming and exploring by jetski.
